CNIPA Patent Reexamination Case Studies
Four examples showing what the rejection said, what changed in the analysis, and what happened procedurally.
These case studies are published so foreign counsel can assess the reasoning method, not just a
success claim. Each example separates the examiner's model from the response strategy and identifies
the procedural result. Client names, unpublished documents, and complete file histories remain private.
Reexamination matters
From rejection logic to a reviewable strategy.
Past outcomes illustrate methods only. They do not guarantee reversal, allowance, grant, timing, or claim scope in another matter.
AI / industrial control
Quality-control system for a pear-fruit sparkling-water production line
Rejection model: detection models, sensing methods, and general algorithm terms were combined as if they taught the claimed control architecture.
Strategy: separate risk-level outputs from actuator action vectors, model training from control updates, and algorithm-search disturbance from physical-process disturbance.
Outcome: reexamination filed within 28 days; rejection revoked in about three months; grant followed.

Polymer processing
Biodegradable material scrap extrusion-mixing process
Rejection model: one-way extrusion and unrelated mixing structures were treated as equivalent to a reciprocating quantitative-delivery system.
Strategy: compare operating principles and motion models instead of isolated labels; tie amendment to the alternating sealing route.
Outcome: rejection, reexamination, remand, second response, then grant.

Precision manufacturing
Gold-plating equipment for small precision parts
Rejection model: the cited references were combined at the level of parts without showing a coordinated route capable of the claimed treatment.
Strategy: rebuild the mechanism around circulation, contact, and treatment consistency rather than superficial feature overlap.
Outcome: rejection revoked in reexamination; the case returned to examination and was granted.

Data systems / biomass
Big-data biomass raw-material supply-chain management system
Rejection model: the invention was reduced to ordinary business management using routine data collection and mathematical models.
Strategy: separate background business activity from the computable technical system addressing incomplete supply-chain information.
Outcome: reexamination succeeded, the case returned to examination, and grant followed.

How to use this library
Look for a transferable reasoning pattern.
Same legal stage
A reexamination case is more probative than an ordinary first-office-action grant when the live matter has already been rejected.
Same technical failure mode
The useful analogy may be hindsight combination, false functional equivalence, unsupported common knowledge, or mischaracterized technical effect—not the industry label.
Same scope objective
Ask whether the prior matter preserved meaningful scope, used focused amendment, or accepted a narrower route for a defined reason.
Transparent boundaries
Sanitized public evidence should be detailed enough to test the method without exposing clients or implying a guaranteed future outcome.
